Associate Professor assumes position on January 1, 2024.
Urban Disaster Prevention Research CoreAssoc. Prof. Yoshihiro YAMAZAKI
My name is Yoshihiro Yamazaki. I have been appointed as an Associate Professor at the FIRST as of January 1st, 2024. I earned Ph.D. from Tokyo Tech in 2012, and worked as an assistant professor at Tokyo Tech until 2019. After that, I worked at Building Research Institute(BRI) for 4.5 years. My specialty is the evaluation of seismic performance of wooden buildings. When a major earthquake of seismic intensity 6 or 7 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale occurs in Japan, it can cause significant damage, especially to older wooden buildings. To reduce such damage in the future, we are developing technologies to improve earthquake resistance and evaluating the performance of buildings to which these technologies are applied. In addition, in recent years, the active use of wood, a building material with low environmental impact, has been attracting attention around the world for the realization of a decarbonized society, and I will continue my research with an awareness of the contribution of the building sector to the formation of a decarbonized society.
