Two faculty members have arrived on March 1, 2025
Urban Disaster Prevention Research Core/Multidisciplinary Resilience Research Center
Assoc. Prof. Takaharu Nakano
I joined the Multidisciplinary Resilience Research Center on March 1, 2025. I mainly research the behavior of building foundations during earthquakes. The foundation is an important component that supports a building, and it is also the transmission path of seismic motion that travels from the epicenter through the ground. If an earthquake damages the foundation and the building tilts, the building may become unusable even if the damage to the superstructure is not severe. In addition, the mechanical interaction between the ground and structure influences the vibration of the building. The difficulty lies in the fact that seismic phenomena are dynamic and the ground is a nonlinear continuum. I hope to contribute to making buildings safer by understanding phenomena and improving models related to ground and foundations. I look forward to your guidance and support.
Advanced Materials Research Core
Asst. Prof. Aya HARASHIMA
My name is Aya Harashima, recently appointed as an Assistant Professor in the research group of Professors Hosoda and Tahara in the Advanced Materials Research Core of FIRST, starting March 1, 2025.
I have been engaged in research on high temperature oxidation of steel. Since 2015, I have been working in the research laboratory of a steel company, and in 2022, I received my Doctor from Hokkaido University Graduate School of Engineering, while researching on high temperature oxidation of steel. I would like to research on high temperature shape memory alloys and on ferromagnetic shape memory alloys and their composites, aiming to establish material design methods and develop new materials. Although my research field will change, I will make an effort to contribute to the development of metal materials and industries with perspectives on surface and interface control and oxidation that I have gained so far, as well as my experience in the industry. I sincerely look forward to your guidance and encouragement.
