Assistant Professor assumes position on February 1, 2024.
Urban Disaster Prevention Research Core
Asst. Prof. Shohei NARITA
My name is Shohei Narita. I was appointed as an assistant professor at the Kusatsu-Shirane Volcano Observatory, the Centre for Multidisciplinary Resilience Research, on 1 February 2024. After receiving my Ph.D. from Hokkaido University in 2020, I conducted observational research on active volcanoes in Kyushu at the Aso Volcanological Laboratory, Kyoto University, until January 2024. My main research interest is to elucidate the mechanisms of volcanic activity using geodetic and thermal methods. In the past, my research has mainly focused on volcanoes that have experienced phreatic eruptions. Kusatsu-Shirane Volcano Observatory has focused on studying Kusatsu-Shirane and MotoShirane volcanoes, which have similar eruptive activity to the volcanoes I have studied. Based on the knowledge and experience gained from my volcanic research, I will attempt to discover unknown aspects of Kusatsu volcanoes and accumulate as much basic knowledge as possible that will lead to disaster mitigation.
