President Kazuya Masu conferred the title of Honorary Professor of the Tokyo Institute of Technology on Professor Emeritus Kenichi Iga at the Professors’ Reception/Honorary Celebration held on November 25, 2022. This title was established in 2011 when Professor Emeritus Kenichi Iga was the President, and the first recipient was Professor Emeritus Yasuharu Suematsu. There have been 13 honorary professors before Professor Iga, including Dr. Tsutomu Kimura, Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi, Dr. Hideo Hosono, and Dr. Keisuke Suzuki.
The President of Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) grants the title of Honorary Professor to a professor at Tokyo Tech, a retired professor at Tokyo Tech, or a graduate or postgraduate of Tokyo Tech who has won a Nobel Prize, Order of Culture, Person of Cultural Merit, Japan Academy Prize, or any other prize or commendation equivalent thereto in recognition of his/her achievements in the education and research fields.
