LG×JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Smart Materials & Devices Collaborative Research Programs
Prof. Hiroki ISHIZAKI(Specially Appointed) I am Hiroki Ishizaki, and is appointed as a special appointed professor for the LG x JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Smart Materials & Devices Collaborative Research Programs Institute of innovative Research in the Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science and Technology on April 1st, 2020. I specialize in nano-materials engineering, semiconductor devices, control engineering, and electrochemistry. Recently, my investigations are the development of microwave plasma-assisted atomic layer deposition technique, the development of Ge-MOS capacitor, the development of solar cell with the high efficiency, and fundament of stable power system with renewable energy and the development of actuator materials. Using my research experience, I shall develop new devices in Collaborative Research Programs. I look forward to your guidance and advice in the future.
Advanced Loading and Real-scale Experimental Mechanics Laboratory
Assoc. Prof. Kensaku KANEKO(Specially Appointed) I am Kensaku Kaneko, specially appointed associate professor, who joined Advanced Loading and Real-scale Experimental Mechanics Laboratory (ALREM), Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science and Technology from April 1st, 2020. ALREM has been working on the realization of the world’s biggest loading apparatus for building structures. Together with our main aim, my research topics are AI-enhanced structural health monitoring with state‐of‐the‐art sensing technologies and nonlinear numerical simulation of buildings subjected to strong ground motions. From both hardware and software perspectives, I do a wide range of industry-academia collaboration activities to improve urban security in Japan and other countries.
Advanced Materials Research Core
Assoc. Prof. Masaki TAHARA I am Masaki Tahara, a new associate professor in Advanced Material Research Core of Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science and Technology (FIRST). I obtained my Ph.D degree from University of Tsukuba and I have been working as an assistant professor from 2011 in Precision and Intelligence Laboratory which is the predecessor of FIRST. I have been doubled as a faculty member of Laboratory for Materials and Structures since 2016. My research topic is functional biomaterials such as shape memory alloys. I will develop the current research projects and expand them to researches of wider range of materials. I would appreciate your continued support and encouragement.
Intelligent Information Processing Research Core
Assoc. Prof. Kotaro FUNAKOSHI I am appointed to an associate professor of Intelligent Information Processing Research Core at FIRST on April 1st, 2020. I was working on multimodal dialogue systems and human-machine interaction for 14 years at Honda Research Institute Japan Co., Ltd. (HRI-JP) as an industry researcher. For the last 3 years, I engaged in the joint research between HRI-JP and Kyoto University. I will co-organize our laboratory with Prof. Okumura and Takamura for intelligent interactive systems research. I hope to make the best use of my past experiences for FIRST, whose mission is contributing not only to academia but also to industry and the society.
Industrial Mechano-System Research Core
Asst. Prof. Tetsuya YAMADA I am Tetsuya Yamada, and was appointed as Assistant Professor of Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science and Technology (FIRST). My research fields are material science, especially in photocatalyst, nanoparticles, electrochemistry, and BioMEMS. I received a doctoral degree from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2018. In my thesis, I studied extracellular electron transfer to control microbial metabolism. My current interest is the cell-material interface, and I want to measure the cell metabolism in situ. From this April, I have joined to Yanagida laboratory where the research is focused on biosensors. Therefore, I am glad to use my background for biosensors.
Quantum Nanoelectronics Research Center
Asst. Prof. Xiongbin YU(Specially Appointed) My name is Xiongbin Yu. I was appointed as a specially appointed associate professor of Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science and Technology (FIRST) on April 1st, 2020. I received my PhD in the graduate school of engineering science from Osaka university in the same year. My main field of research is high frequency circuit. During the PhD period, I was concentrating on the work of terahertz integrated circuits based on photonic-crystal waveguide platform. Compact resonant tunneling diode (RTD) transmitter and receiver were successfully integrated with the photonic-crystal waveguides in the 0.3-THz band. Moreover, terahertz communications applications were demonstrated for a proof of concept. My future work will focus on the high-frequency and high-power operation of RTD transmitters, which are aimed to achieve ultrahigh-speed terahertz wireless communications. I am looking forward to working in FIRST.
